Ultrasound-Guided Injection Therapy

An Injection Is Only as Good as Its Placement

Studies show that “blind” joint injections — done by feel alone — miss their target a surprising percentage of the time, especially in the hip and shoulder. Every injection at Treasure Coast Non-Surgical Orthopedics is performed under live ultrasound guidance, so Dr. O watches the needle reach the exact target before anything is delivered. Precision isn’t a luxury; it’s the difference between relief and a shrug.

Injection Treatments We Offer

  • Corticosteroid (cortisone) injections — fast, reliable relief of inflammatory flares, used strategically
  • Hyaluronic acid (gel) injections — joint lubrication for knee arthritis
  • PRP injections — platelet-rich plasma from your own blood (see Orthobiologic Therapy)
  • Tendon sheath and bursa injections — trigger finger, DeQuervain’s, bursitis
  • Diagnostic injections — confirming a pain source before committing to bigger decisions

Honest Talk About Cortisone

Cortisone works — quickly. But it’s a tool with a right and a wrong use. Repeated cortisone in tendons can weaken them, and frequent injections into arthritic joints may not help long-term. We use cortisone where evidence supports it — calming a hot joint, breaking a pain cycle, enabling rehab — and we’ll tell you when an orthobiologic approach is the smarter investment.

What to Expect

Most injections take minutes, in-office, with patients returning to light activity the same day. You’ll know what we’re injecting, why, what it costs, and what result to expect — before we start.

Answers from Dr. Ogunsola

The questions Treasure Coast patients search most — answered with the same honesty you'll get in the office.

Do ultrasound-guided injections hurt more?

No — typically less. Guided placement means fewer repositioning attempts and avoids sensitive structures. Most patients describe brief pressure rather than significant pain.

How long does a cortisone shot last?

Typically weeks to a few months depending on the condition and severity. If relief is consistently short-lived, that’s a signal to discuss longer-horizon options like PRP rather than repeating cortisone indefinitely.

What do knee gel injections do?

Hyaluronic acid supplements the joint’s natural lubricant. For mild-to-moderate knee arthritis, gel injections can reduce pain for several months — results vary, and we’ll be candid about whether you’re a good candidate.

Are injections covered by insurance?

Cortisone and gel injections are typically covered by Medicare when medically indicated. PRP, BMAC AND MFAT are generally self-pay; you’ll receive exact pricing before treatment.

Disclaimer: “Individual results vary. PRP and BMAC are autologous treatments performed under FDA regulations for same-day use of a patient’s own tissue; they are not FDA-approved to treat specific orthopedic conditions.
